Sponsored App Review: Snap or Crap

July 1, 2014 - Written By Tom Dawson

Description: Snap or Crap is an Android app that groups Snapchats into a central library for you to take a look at. The idea of Snap or Crap is pretty self explanatory, all you do is give a snapchat thumbs up or thumbs down. Each day around 25 – 50 new Snapchats are added to the app and there’s already a great selection of snaps on offer. There’s also the Snap Me section which is a great way for users to meet new contacts on Snapchat. All-in-all, Snap or Crap is designed for those that love Snapchat and want to take a look at some of the funniest snaps being sent around out there online and every day there is a video added for you to take a look at.

How it Works: Just like other Android apps, you’ll need to download Snap or Crap from the Play Store. Once you have, just go ahead and launch the app to take a look at some interesting snaps.

Snaps are broken down into categories for you to simply take a look at and you can easily swipe left and right to get to the next image.

A popular category seems to be the Snapchat Art category with lots of drawn images like this one with Sonic in it.

To send snapchats to Snap or Crap, you can do so a couple of ways.

Opinion: While not a massive user of Snapchat, I often use it with my friends as well as my girlfriend for easy picture sharing. However, if there’s one thing clear about the mobile world right now, it’s that teens and young adults love Snapchat. Just like Twitter’s Vine, there’s some really funny stuff floating around out there. I’m not sure how comfortable I am with Snaps being reshared en mass like this, after all the whole point is for them to be deleted after a few seconds, but we trust that questionable content is regulated by the app’s developers. Regardless though, if you’re looking for something a little more original or something to make you chuckle, there’s a good chance of finding it in Snap or Crap.

Ratings

  • Speed (4/5) – The app runs just fine and there’s very little waiting in between images loading.
  • Features (4/5) – It’s a pretty simple app, but Snap or Crap gives users an opportunity to get involved in something of a phenomenon going on right now on the Internet. It’s also just good fun.
  • Theme (3/5) – The app could do with a bit of a revamp as the overall look of Snap or Crap is a little clunky.
  • Overall (4/5) – While the menus are a little dated, Snap or Crap is a lot of fun and it’s great for a few minutes or so to keep you occupied on your way to work or just a time killer.

Pros

  • Great for those that use Snapchat on a regular basis with their friends.
  • Good way of killing a little time on the way to work or just when you need a little pick me up.
  • Does what similar apps do for Vines, offering simple consumption of great Snaps.
  • Easy to use at the end of a long day and it just works.

Cons

  • Sort of goes against the whole ephemeral side of Snapchat.
  • Menus could do with some work as they feel a little clunky.

Conclusion: Snap or Crap might not be for everyone, but if you’re a big Snapchat fan, then you’ll probably really enjoy the snaps found in this app. The concept is simple, yet effective and Snap or Crap does what similar apps have done for the best Vines out there. Even if it does stray away from Snapchat’s ephemeral side, it can give big Snapchat users ideas of funny photos to share with their friends and the Snap Me part of the app can help you share with even more users.
