Samsung’s New Galaxy Photo Screen Lock App: Use Photos to Create Your Own Lock Screen

July 29, 2014 - Written By Cory McNutt

Samsung has never been afraid to dabble in the area of Applications – in fact, they are known for their overkill of software and applications, or what we like to call…bloatware.  I believe that Samsung has the right to design and create all of the Apps that they want, or feel is necessary, just do not force me to keep them on my Samsung device.  After a long talk with Google, Samsung seems to have changed their way of thinking – to an extent – by still downloading them on our device, but into their Samsung Folder, where we can make the decision to actually install them.  This was a BIG step for Samsung, but a small step for mankind…or something like that.

However, even the staunchest Samsung hater will admit that on occasion, Samsung does create a truly useful or fun App – the Galaxy Photo Screen Lock App is one such application.  It allows you to take one of your own photos (and more) to create your own custom lock screen for your Samsung device – it was tested on the Galaxy S3, Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S5. For other devices, it tells you to “please download and have a try” and if “the weather location can not be fetched automatically, please restart your device or turn off weather.” The application will work on many other different devices that are running Android 4.0 or higher…and remember that this is not a Lock Screen Widget, but actually replaces your original lock screen. Not exactly a ‘full-proof’ application just yet and hopefully Samsung will make a few corrections and update the App so that more people can enjoy using it and customizing their lock screen.

Using this new App will allow you to display your own photos from your Gallery or take a new one with you camera.  Besides a single photo, you can have a slideshow effect as well.  You can also display your battery information, a weather forecast, the time and date, or notifications of missed calls and unread messages.

Please hit us up on our Google+ Page and let us know if you have downloaded this new App and if it worked for you. I am sure some folks out there will try it on many different devices, so please let everybody know what works and what doesn’t…as always we would love to hear from you.  Pick the App up HERE on Google Play.
