For many years now Google has been trying to get more and more of its products into the enterprise industry. It’s competitors like Microsoft and Apple have had such a strong foothold, which they would like to change. Today, during their Annual Developers Conference Google I/O, Google announced some big new features that will help get them better into the enterprise!
The first of new features that they announced today, as part of the new “L” update are the ability to use your device for both personal use and business work with they help underlying data separation that keeps personal and business information separate from each other. No modification has to be done by developers for this to happen! No more having to carry a work Android device and a personal android device! The next new feature that Google announces today is the ability for IT Managers to bulk purchase apps for their workers and then mass deploy them right to the workers. What is interesting about this announcement is that Google apparently had some help from Samsung Knox service. Google will also be adding some new features to Google Drive. One of the great new features inside of Google drive is the ability to take all three Google Drive apps offline and use offline editing! You will also be able to edit and save Microsoft Office documents natively. Before you were forced to convert them to Google’s format before you edited them. Also, Google is introducing a Suggested Edit feature right in Google drive that allows other people who are collaborating with you to suggest an edit to you which you can decline or accept!
Google also revealed its new Slides app for both Android and iOS that allows you to create and edit presentations. You can use the presentation with Microsoft powerpoint and you don’t have to click save, as the program will save every new change that you make. Slides will be able to download later today in both the Google Play store and the iOS App store. Last but not least, Google announced Drive for Work, which offers companies encryption in transit and on-server, enhanced admin controls, audit and activity APIs, and unlimited storage for just $10 per user per month. This is great for those who don’t want to pay the high price for Microsoft Office 360. Stay tuned for more Google I/O Announcements!
