LG’s new Overlay Appears on the G3, Let’s take a look

May 27, 2014 - Written By Alexander Maxham

The LG G3 is being announced right now and LG is showing off the new overlay skin that they have made for the G3. They’ve made everything flat, and even changed their font. But what else have they done? Well that’s what we are about to go over in this post.

Three new user experiences have been introduced in the LG G3. LG says that they have listened to their customers, which is always great. We are looking at the Smart Keyboard, Smart Notice and Smart Security here. LG says that typing is the number one thing that we do on our smartphones, and most OEMs don’t do much with their keyboard, however LG is changing that. LG has redesigned the input method, so that one thumb stays in the keyboard  when typing. Instead of moving them when you’re editing what you’ve typed. To use a suggested word, just swipe up, which is pretty sweet. Smart Keyboard also has more customization capabilities on the LG G3, putting you in control. LG’s Smart Keyboard is supposedly more convenient. Of course, we can’t tell until it’s actually in our hands.

Next is Smart Notice. We use our phones for finding restaurants, checking traffic, and so many other things. LG is providing smart notifications in the LG G3. Smart Notice “Simplifies your Life”. It provides the most valuable information at the right time. Smart Notice provides tips based on how you use your device. The LG G3 reminds you to put your battery into battery saving mode, and also location information. It alerts you to big changes to weather changes during the day.

FInally we’re onto Smart Security. LG is providing peace of mind in 3 ways. Knock Code, Content Lock, and Kill Switch. Knock Code is on the LG G Pro 2, and has rolled out to various other LG devices lately. Over 80,000 Knock Code combinations are available. LG says it’s intuitive to use as well, and is pretty safe. You can still use Knock On on the LG G3 as well, which was one of my favorite features from the LG G2. Content Lock keeps your files encrypted at 128-bit. Even those on the microSD card, which is pretty amazing as most smartphones don’t have that. Finally the Kill Switch, which allows you to disable your LG G3 remotely, in case your phone gets lost or stolen. It also makes your phone completely unusable. So that if a thief tries to sell it, it’s not going to work.
