BlackBerry Messenger has been available to both iOS and Android users since about six months ago and a lot of folks have really enjoyed being able to use one of the greatest messaging platforms. One thing that many members complained when it first was launched was that the sign up page and that it asked for too much information. You had to provide your name, email address, a username, your date of birth, and what country you lived in. Well the BBM team over at BlackBerry have been listening and have responded.
BlackBerry is pushing out BBM version 2.2 to Android, iOS and BlackBerry users. Inside of BBM v2.2 is a new simplified sign up page for new users. Now all you need to provide when signing up is your name, email address, and a password. BlackBerry has also made it easier to add someone via email, as all you need to do is click a link in the email, no longer requiring a pin invite back. When you fire up the new BBM update you will also notice that the “Updates” tab has been renamed the “Feeds” tab. This makes a lot of sense, since this is were you will see all bits of information regarding status updates, BBM Channel updates, and BBM Group updates. You will also notice that there are a few new Emoticons inside of the BBM 2.2 update! There are 16 of them to be exact and they include things like a hotdog, maracas, to a hacker and a pair of hot lips.
The update should be available now on Google Play if you already have BBM installed on your Android device. It looks like iOS users will be getting the update very soon, and BlackBerry users will see it in the coming weeks! BlackBerry users will have some extra features available to them according to the BBM Team. I personally am still waiting for BBM to include BBM Video Chat on Android and iOS, and hopefully we will see it soon! Check out the update and let us know what you think!
