Google Play Turns 2! US Play Store Birthday Sale Page Now Live

March 6, 2014 - Written By Justin Diaz

If you love the series Real Housewives on Bravo and have a love for all things Grumpy Cat, then this Play Store sale is for you. If you don’t care for either of those things, that’s OK because there are still a few good things within this sale. Just like any other sale that Google Play has had in the two years it’s been alive, you’ll find some steep discounted deals on everything from games, to music, magazine, TV, movies, books, and apps. Yes pretty much every category of content from the Play Store is covered under this sale, sadly some things more than others. All jokes aside there are few good finds in here, and arguably more for some people. On a personal level I would have liked to see more apps and games included, but Google has done a decent job at trying to cater to every one with different tastes. One thing is for sure though, Grumpy Cat would have some choice words in response to this years sale that celebrates the Google Play Store turning 2 years old.

The sale actually went live in other regions first, but for everyone stateside it just went live this morning so if you were waiting to get your hands on some cool deals, now’s the time and the sale won’t last long, so you’ll want to make sure you set aside at least five minutes to poke through the content and grab up whatever you like.

All told there’s about half of the content that seems worth looking into or picking up, and the other half is underwhelming to say the least. Badland, FIFA 14, and Heroes of Dragon Age are all great games worth your time, and they’re all free. Badland offers one time IAP for the game’s full inclusion of levels and content, while FIFA and Heroes of Dragon age support the more Freemium model with IAP you can make whenever you want. Other notable finds within this sale are Notorious B.I.G.s Greatest Hits, the book titled Inside Game of Thrones, and a book on seemingly everything Grumpy Cat. In terms of good content, what seems to get the most attention are the movies. Bad Grandpa, The Great Gatsby, Star Trek Into Darkness, Red 2, The Dark Knight Rises, World War Z, The Amazing Spider-Man, and The Hobbit are all great films. That pretty much sums it up for stuff that’s worth picking up. You can jump to the link for the sale page by hitting the Play Store link below. On a slightly related note, if you were thinking about picking up Badland,(which is an excellent game) you’re better off doing so through the Humble Mobile Bundle 4, which just started two days ago and will be going for about two weeks.
