The Sony Smartwatch 2 is one of those smartwatches that doesn’t really come to mind when we think smartwatches. Why? I really have no idea. It’s a great smartwatch, and our Managing Editor, Tom, loves his. He even reviewed it recently. The Smartwatch 2 doesn’t actually run Android, although it does look a lot like Sony’s Android skin. It has a pretty small display, but then again you don’t want a huge display on your wrist, or do you? The Smartwatch 2 is readable in sunlight. It’s also a touchscreen, unlike the Pebble. Additionally it’s water resistant (IP57). It can also be used as a standalone digital watch. You can also connect the Sony Smartwatch 2 to your phone via Bluetooth and check calls, messages, Facebook, Twitter, Sports and just about all your notifications without pulling out your smartphone.
The smartwatch 2 does come with the standard black wristband, but it is compatible with any standard 24 mm wristband, which is great. Because you can use many different colors, like with the Pebble. It does have NFC inside, so you can pair your phone with your Smartwatch just by tapping them together. Which is one of my favorite uses of NFC technology these days. The Smartwatch 2 is compatible with Android 4.0 and later. Currently there’s no iOS support, unfortunately.
