Ant Farm

Sponsored App Review: Ant Farm

January 20, 2014 - Written By Tom Dawson

Description: Ant Farm is a live wallpaper for your Android smartphone or tablet that aims to bring a little bit of nature to your Android device. Ant Farm depicts exactly what you think, an Ant farm and the Ants going about their business but, it’s a little more than that. Everything is rendered in stunning high quality and looks good on even the highest resolution displays. There’s a real day-to-night cycle that mimics what time it is on your device, with different events happening at different times. The insects act like you’d think as well, with Queen Ants laying eggs and new Ants arriving in the farm. Other insects such as grasshoppers are taken into the farm and everything plays out just as it would if you studied an Ant Farm in the wild. As a live wallpaper for Android, Ant Farm allows you to watch leaves, ants and nature go past on your Android device. Take a look at the trailer below for a closer look:

How it Works: First of all, you’ll need to download the app from the Play Store and remember that this is a live wallpaper, so there’s no icon in your app drawer. Instead, you’ll find it among the other live wallpapers installed on your device. Selecting it will give you a preview of what to expect.

Opinion: Ant Farm is a great-looking live wallpaper that runs nicely. It brings a little bit of nature to your homescreen and I really like that. It’s nice to have something like this every now and then and the realistic day-to-night cycle can give you some very pleasing scenes to look at as the moon falls. Of course, live wallpapers aren’t for everyone but, this is a great one to try out if you’re not sold on them just yet. With the vast range of settings you’re able to change and tweak, you can make your own unique Ant Farm and it’s also easy to adjust so that it runs a little better on older or less powerful smartphones.

Ratings

  • Speed (4/5) – Live wallpapers are often intensive but, this has a light footprint and I never noticed any lag or anything of the sort when running on a number of devices.
  • Features (5/5) – As if the general concept of Ant Farm wasn’t enough, there are so many settings you can adjust that there’s a lot of flexibility on offer when it comes to creating the perfect live wallpaper for you.
  • Theme (4/5) – With some great-looking graphics, charming animations and more this is definitely easy on the eyes.
  • Overall (4/5) – A solid live wallpaper that brings a little more life to homescreens and lockscreens everywhere, Ant Farm is definitely worth trying out.

Pros

  • Lots of settings to tweak and tune to your liking.
  • Easy on the eye, not too distracting but pleasantly noticeable in the same breath.
  • Ant Farm isn’t like other live wallpapers and is gentle on resources.
  • Brings a little bit of relaxation to your homescreen.

Cons

  • Those that don’t like insects won’t like such a live wallpaper.
  • Some more insects or animals to come across the field at the top would be nice to see.

Conclusion: All-in-all, Ant Farm is a pleasant live wallpaper that doesn’t lean too heavily on your system resources and should run on pretty much any Android phone from the last couple of years without any problems. Bringing some of the charm and whimsy of the outdoors to our smartphones, Ant Farm will have a special place in people’s hearts that had their own Ant Farms when they were little. For those who love to be outdoors, they can finally get a close-up of Ants in action without having to worry about getting them all over themselves. Well worth a try, Ant Farm is a pleasant and somewhat relaxing live wallpaper.
