Hangouts v2.0 with SMS Integration and More Starts Rolling Out, Get The APK Here

November 7, 2013 - Written By Alexander Maxham

Since the Google+ event last week, we’ve all been eagerly awaiting this new version of Hangouts to start rolling out to other devices. Even though most of us just grabbed the Hangouts APK from the Nexus 5 factory image last week, which did cause some problems. This afternoon, the new version of Hangouts did begin rolling out to everyone else, which is great new. Now we can all have SMS integration in Hangouts, unless of course you’re like me and use Google Voice.

This version of Hangouts has been slightly updated since the Nexus 5’s version surfaced. This one is sitting at v2.0.122, which is a bump from the 2.0.012 version on the Nexus 5. This update is beginning it’s staged rollout right now. Of course, you all know how much we hate staged rollouts, which is why we grabbed the APK and have shared it with you all so you can enjoy the new Hangouts sooner!

If you want to wait for the update, feel free. Although it may take a few days or even a week. But I’m sure that’s not too bad. The update brings more than just SMS integration. We’re also getting Animated GIFs inside Hangouts, Location sharing and now you can share your mood with your friends. That includes being able to see if the person you’re talking to is on their phone or laptop and also if they are in a call or not. Which is a pretty nice feature to have, honestly. It’s about time Google made Hangouts so we can see who’s on mobile or on desktop. Very handy indeed.

If you’re looking to download the APK, we’ve got the link down below for you. As usual you’ll need to make sure that you have “Unknown Sources” checked in the settings, then you’re free to install it like any other app.
