Just last week, Google announced Android 4.4. And as tech enthusiasts, we want KitKat on our current device right now. Well we’ve posted a few custom ROMs over the past few days that are running Android 4.4. So we decided to do some more research and find some more Android 4.4 – KitKat ROMs for everyone.
10. Android 4.4 Stable for the Xperia Z
Not too many of us here in the US own the Xperia Z, but the Xperia Z is pretty popular elsewhere in the world. There’s now a stable ROM with Android 4.4 for the Xperia Z which brings all the features of KitKat over to the Xperia Z. Including the Google Experience Launcher.
9. KitKat 4.4 AOSP for HTC One
Those of you running the HTC One are going to love this ROM. This one was built from AOSP and is using Android 4.3 Binaries. Right now it’s available for the AT&T, T-Mobile, and International versions. So far the Sprint and Verizon HTC One’s do not have a build, unfortunately.
8. KitKat by koko8
Attention OG Nexus 7 users. Don’t think we forgot about you. This one is an Android 4.4 custom ROM just for you guys. At the time of writing this post, the ROM doesn’t have the camera, rotation or GPS working. But that shouldn’t take to long to get it working.
7. AOSP Kangs for Nexus 7 (2013)
Here’s one for the new Nexus 7 users out there, like myself. This one is built from AOSP and is sitting on it’s second build. It’s worth noting that this is WIP aka Work In Progress. So there’s obviously going to be some broken things here. Make sure you download Gapps before flashing as well.
6. PureROM – AOSP for the Nexus 7 (2013)
Here’s another KitKat ROM for the new Nexus 7 (2013). The developer does note that this is not a daily driver. Which makes sense since it is an early beta and there’s still a ton of bugs to be worked out here. It’s made completely from AOSP, like it says in the title. And don’t forget those Gapps.
5. KitKat for the Sprint Galaxy Nexus
Google may have forgotten about those Galaxy Nexus users out there, but the developers haven’t XDA User Savoca has made a great ROM for the Sprint Galaxy Nexus (Toroplus) based off of Android 4.4 – AOSP. So far there are a few things that aren’t working which includes WiFi, Data, GPS, Sensors and there’s also a Graphical issues. Make sure you keep an eye on this for future builds once it gets closer to a daily driver.
4. ShinyROM for the Verizon Galaxy Nexus
For all of you Verizon Galaxy Nexus users, that may not even have Android 4.3 yet. Well the developers have built a KitKat ROM off of AOSP, which is build KRT16M. This one seems to be pretty stable, and it looks like everything is working which is pretty awesome.
3. Android 4.4 Odex for Nexus 4
There’s a few options for Nexus 4 users out there. This one really doesn’t have a name. But it is built from AOSP an there are a few bugs, like the Google Keyboard force closes, some apps appear to not be working in ART mode, like Whatsapp. There’s also a custom kernel included.
2. SlimKat for Sprint Galaxy Nexus
Here’s another one for the Sprint Galaxy Nexus aka Toroplus. This is made by Slimbean, which is popular for being such a lightweight ROM and also being inverted. It’s nice to see them still working on the Sprint Galaxy Nexus, as I’m sure there are many users still out there on the Toroplus.
1. MAKO-odexed. Nexus 5 Port
This ROM I was actually running on my Nexus 4 until the Nexus 5 showed up. It’s basically a complete port from the Nexus 5, and it’s actually really smooth and fast. I noticed better battery life as well from this one, which was expected.
