What a way to kickstart the weekend – here’s another fresh rumor concerning Google’s Smartwatch. Coming from Artem Russakovskii, who you’ll know as the co-founder of Android Police. Speaking on Google+, he says that he “feels relatively confident about” his sources however, that he doesn’t have anything visual evidence to pass on over to us. For that reason, he’s decided to keep it off of Android Police.

Apparently, Google is set to unveil their own smartwatch alongside Android 4.4 and presumably the new Nexus 5. Codenamed “Gem” there’s not much known about this new smartwatch but, we have heard rumblings of such a device before. For Google to announce their own platform as a smartwatch would make a lot of sense, as they could deliver confidence to developers looking to develop small apps for Smartwatches.

Previous rumors for a Google Watch have centered around the Motorola xWatch, which was said to launch alongside the Moto X. However, it seems their parent company is about to steal the limelight.

Artem has already previously shared a rumor on Google+ concerning the reveal date for Android 4.4 and the Nexus 5 which, he claims is October 31st. However, as he says he was given this date over a month ago now so there’s a good chance that this has changed.

All-in-all, we’re not sure to make of this. As rumors go, there’s not much to go on here at all but, we have no doubt Russakovskii has his sources but, we can’t help wonder why these rumors haven’t been ran on Android PoliceNeedles to say, chances of us waiting much longer for a Nexus 5 and Android 4.4 are pretty slim as we’re sure Google want to release a new Nexus to grab some of the Holiday Season buzz.

Meanwhile, we’re sure that the Nexus 5 will continue to leak out in droves before its official announcement and launch. October 14th is said to be the date for Technical Acceptance of the new Nexus so, it’s likely that a launch isn’t too far behind.

For years now I've had a heavy interest in technology, I grew up with 8-bit computers and gaming consoles and have been using Linux for years now. Android saved me from the boredom of iOS years ago and I've loved every minute of it. As a big reader and writer nothing pleases me more than to write about the exciting world of Android and technology as a whole.

Does every article have “would make a lot of sense” in it these days?

that render actually looks pretty damn cool.
drop it for a reasonable price and i might be all over it.

How long does it take between announcing a press event and having it? Ten days doesn’t seem long enough. It is especially not long enough for all the exciting stuff Google has in store: Nexus 5, Gem, probably Nexus 10, maybe Nexus Game Console (per the WSJ). Closer to Halloween is my guess. I think they need to have a longer invitation-event period. With all the effort they’re putting to Kitkat marketing, they probably have something big in store.

The Nexus 4 and 10 was available shortly after the annoucement.

Not availability after announcement. I mean the time between the invitation to the event and the event itself.

Not quite sure what is the problem here, why should they have longer invitation-event period?

      • NF

It generates more hype. Plus, I don’t know how many reporters want to be flown into New York for an event on a short notice.
