TELUS Acquiring 100% of Public Mobile

In a press release issued this week, it looks like TELUS is going to be acquiring all of Public MObile. Back in 2008, Public Mobile invested about $52 million on the once-unwanted G-Band spectrum between Windsor and Quebec City. The carrier launched their service in Toronto and Montreal “value consious Canadian consumers”. Public Mobiel currently has about 280,000 wireless subscribers.

“TELUS has committed to keeping on all of our existing employees at close. While there will be a transition period, the longer term plan is to fully integrate the operations of Public Mobile into TELUS… While Public Mobile will not continue as a stand-alone entity, you will have an opportunity to find a place to grow and enhance your career within TELUS.”

Future Shop and Best Buy Stocking Pebble Smartwatch Soon

One of the many smartwatches on the market right now, the Pebble, will be coming to both Future shop and Best Buy in Canada very soon. They’ve already started taking pre-orders as of Friday, October 25th. According to both Best Buy and Future Shop ¬†have stated “This product is scheduled to arrive in our warehouse on November 18th”. Mobilicity President Leaving the Company on October 31st

Mobilicity is really having problems, and now their president Stewart Lyons will be leaving the company next week. Lyons has been the president for about 2 years now. So far there’s no word on where Lyons will head to next, but he did have a statement regarding the move:

“I’m proud of the team at Mobilicity and what we accomplished but it’s time for me to move on to another opportunity. I wish Mobilicity nothing but success as the company goes through this process.”

HTC Desire 601 Also coming to Fido and Koodo Mobile

In addition to Rogers, the Desire 601 is also coming to Fido and Koodo Mobile very soon. As far as specs go, the HTC Desire 601 is an LTE-enabled phone packing a 4.5-inch 540×960 resolution display, a 1.4GHz dual-core processor (probably Snapdragon 400), with a 5MP camera, 2100mAh battery and running Android 4.2.2. Sense 5 is probably on board too, but no confirmation on that just yet.
