App of the Day: Textra SMS

One of the great things about Android is the ability to replace your messaging or SMS app. There are plenty of alternatives out there like GoSMS Pro, Sliding Messenger and many others. Now there’s a new one on the scene. Which is Textra SMS. Textra is a complete SMS and MMS replacement app, you can disable your stock Messaging app and replace it with this one. There are tons of great features like 800+ emoji’s, quick reply popup, and better MMS and group messaging, and much more.

Along with all those great features in Textra SMS, you’ll also be able to customize the chat bubble color and notifications per contact. So you can look at your phone and see who you got a text from based on the notification light color. Pretty slick, in my opinion. You can customize the icon color, LED color, message sound, vibrate pattern, privacy and quick reply popup. Textra SMS is a pretty fast and special SMS app. As the developers say “Simple. Beautiful. Fast.” Which is completely true on all levels.

Textra SMS is a free app in the Google Play Store. It’s also available for Android 4.0 – Ice Cream Sandwich and above. The overall interface of the app looks like a mix of Holo and Kik’s UI. But that’s just my opinion. I wouldn’t say it looks bad, but it could definitely look much better. As you can see in the screenshots throughout this post, it’s a great looking app and it’s definitely clean, compared to many of the other text messaging replacement apps out there.

Currently, Textra SMS is sitting at an average of 4.4 stars for reviews. With over a thousand 5-star ratings. So it’s gotta be really good, right? It’s also sitting at version 1.21, and weighs in at 1.2MB. So it’s a rather small app, especially when compared to many of the other apps we use on a daily basis, like Google+ and Facebook. What text messaging replacement app do you use? Or do you even still send texts? Let us know in the comments down below.
