Burner Hits the Play Store, Offers a Disposable Number for Free and Saves You From Craigslist Weirdos

Burner, a mobile application that offers disposable phone numbers, just launched for Android. It has been available on iOS for quite some time now. What Burner fundamentally does is present users with a temporary phone number to receive SMS and calls at. The numbers are disposable and can be used for things like mobile surveys, messaging clubs (who wants to sign up to those things with their real phone number), and prank calls.

Remember that one time you sold an item on Craigslist and some weirdo started calling your cell on a frequent basis? Yeah well, Burner can help with that problem. Never happened to you? Oh, maybe I should reconsider advertising myself as a male housekeeper in the future- maid outfit and all.

The Burner application is free to download and comes with a complimentary number, which happens to be conveniently referred to as a “Burner.” You’ll get a chance to try out the free disposable number for up to one full day, 5 calls, or 15 texts- whichever milestone comes first.

Burner in action

You can use a Burner, or disposable number, just like a normal mobile number. It can send and recieve phone calls, store voicemails and even handle text messaging (incoming and outgoing).

Not so fast though, it’s going to cost you quite a few credits to use the application after you’ve depleted your free Burner. As listed on the official app page, here are the Burner plans and prices for proprietary credits:

Burner Options

  • SAMPLE BURNER (Available once) – 1 day or 5 voice or 15 text (FREE)
  • Mini Burner – 7 days or 20 voice or 60 texts (3 credits)
  • Standard Burner – 30 days or 50 voice or 150 texts (5 credits)
  • Large Burner – 30 days or 90 voice or 270 texts (8 credits)
  • Long Burner – 60 days or 75 voice or 225 texts (8 credits)

Burner Extension Options

  • Add 30 days or 50 voice or 150 texts (5 credits)
  • Add 90 days or 90 minutes or 270 texts (10 credits)
  • Add 60 voice or 180 texts (5 credits)

Cost of Credits

  • 3 Credits = $1.99
  • 8 Credits = $4.99
  • 15 Credits = $7.99
  • 25 Credits = $11.99

As you can see, using the premium version of the app is probably going to be quite costly. Luckily, there’s a referral system that earns you credits for bugging the shit out of your friends. I kid, I kid.

If you get your friends to sign up with your unique referral code they can earn credits for themselves and you. Word on the number of credits you’ll get for a referral is rather mum, so let’s hope it’s at least worth the hassle.

It’s worth noting that the app itself was previously $1.99 to download, but to go along with the Android launch the developers are now offering the app for free with a sample Burner.

What say you AH people? I know you’re just dying to say something about the app, or maybe even my maid outfit?
