Would You Buy A Smartphone From A Hot Chick In A Shower? Sony Thinks So

The Sony Xperia Z has been making the rounds in various countries since it’s unveiling at CES. Starting with it’s launch in Sony’s home country of Japan, the manufacturers flagship smartphone has been on a pretty successful whirlwind tour of Europe with stops in the United Kingdom, France, and Germany.

It’s doubtful that any of those markets got to see the type of sales pitch that people in the Czech Republic had recently. With one of the major selling points of the Xperia Z being the fact that the device is waterproof, it would make sense to show the handset functioning in the water right? Well that’s just what Sony and T-Mobile CZ did only instead of some suit dunking a phone into a glass of water they used models in a shower.

As you can see from the pictures, this form of advertising certainly got more than it’s share of curious onlookers. Makes sense with a bikini clad hottie in a shower making calls and posting to Facebook while soaking wet. There was apparently a male model there in a shower too but I guess we can take their word for that one.

Marketing gimmicks aside the Xperia Z is absolutely worthy of carrying the flagship moniker. Along with being waterproof the handset carries with it these stats:

  • 5.0 inches TFT Full HD 1080p panel
  • 1.5 GHz Qualcomm APQ8064+MDM9215M Quad Core processor
  • 146 grams (or 5.15 oz)
  • 139 x 71 x 7.9 mm (5.47 x 2.80 x 0.31 inch)
  • 13 megapixel Exmor RS camera with Auto focus and flash
  • 2 MP, Exmor R, front facing camera (1080p)
  • 2,330 mAh battery with talk time up to 11 hours and standby time up to 550 hours
  • Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean)

Today has been a pretty big day for Sony. Earlier we posted about the manufacturer’s Xperia Transfer, which is a pretty nifty way to get all of your stuff that may be on a non Android smartphone, including IOS devices, onto a brand spanking new Sony handset. There have to be some of our readers who have this device already so let us know your thoughts on it. Also I’m curious how many of you out there are such suckers for a pretty face that a stunt like this could make you actually commit to a device. Let us know in the comments.
