One of the features we use on Android to brag about how great Android is to our friends is Google Now. Which is a pretty big feature as well as a cool one. Google Now was introduced back at Google I/O 2012 with Android 4.1 – Jelly Bean, and is available on every phone running Android 4.1 or higher. Now there are two parts to Google Now. There’s the screen that shows you cards, like the one below, then there’s the search where you can type in your search or say what you want to search for. In that screen there are plenty of commands you can use to show off how great Android really is.

I have recently been using the (team name) vs (team name) to check NBA action. (Not surprisingly, it is fantastic) “Lakers vs Warriors” It tells the most recent score, date played and upcoming game if there is one.

Being a chemistry student I’ve used it several times to ask about the properties of certain chemicals. You can ask the melting point of napthalene. Boiling point of iodine, etc. It’s useful in a pinch particularly since typing with latex gloves on isn’t much fun.

Turn off WiFi doesn’t work. Neither does asking it to go silent mode. Both give the error message: “Device control not supported” on my new Nexus 4.
