February 27, 2013 - Written By Alexander Maxham

The Chrome for Android app, not Chrome Beta, has just been updated and is now available in Google Play. It brings along with it some nice new enhancements and improvements. Now according to the changelog that Google’s Chrome team provided, we’ve got some improvements to the scrolling performance, increased responsiveness in pinch-to-zoom, faster interactive pages, along with expanded support for HTML5 features.

Here’s the full changelog from Google Play:

What’s in this version:

Updates in this version of Chrome for Android include:
1. Improved scrolling performance
2. Increased responsiveness to pinch-zooming on pages
3. Faster interactive pages thanks to the latest version of the V8 javascript engine
4. Audio now continues to play while Chrome is in the background
5. Expanded support for HTML5 features
* Audio playing in Chrome will now pause when the phone is in use. This requires an additional permission.

So for those of you still using Chrome, and not Chrome beta, be sure to go to the Play Store and grab your update. It sounds like it’s a pretty big one this time. If you’re on Android 4.1 or higher on a Nexus, it will be your default browser, unless you’ve installed another browser like Firefox, Skyfire, Opera, etc.  Chrome is a great browser, and much better than the stock browser that was in Android 4.0 and earlier, or the stock browser on Samsung and HTC devices that use a skin over Android. It also works better for HTML5, and javascript compared to some other browsers on the market. It’s also much faster, at least for me it is. Not to mention being able to sync my tabs across devices like my PC’s, tablets and phone. But overall you should see some big performance changes with this new version of Chrome for Android.

How many of you use Chrome for Android on your phone? If not Chrome, then which browser do you use? Let us know in the comments below. In the meantime you can grab the update from the Play Store by hitting the button below.
