There’s a lot that we can do with technology these days and a lot of the advances has come in the form of making processors smaller, faster and more power efficient. We’ve seen screens take on more pixels than the average PC Monitor in just the last few months alone and yet, there’s one area that has yet to really take off – NFC. Near field communication was first bought to us with the Nexus S way back at the end of 2010 and while we can all see the potential, it hasn’t taken off like we all thought it would.
Some of us out there are probably using Google Wallet at the local gas station or at the convenience store but, for the large majority of users that have an NFC chip in their phone there’s nowhere to use the technology. The problem gets even worse if you’re outside of the U.S. – here in the UK I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything to do with NFC in even the biggest cities. So, what are you to do if you want experiment with this new technology?

Well, NFC tags have some pretty good uses in the home – they can be used as “triggers” to turn things on or off on your phone and can launch applications whenever you want. This can get pretty handy in the home, for instance, if you have WiFi off all day long you could apply one of these AndyTags to somewhere near your front door, swipe it and then WiFi is enabled straight away. You could do the same for in the car with Bluetooth, swipe the phone over the tag and Bluetooth is enabled. Simple things like these are made super easy through the use of these little tags.
For those in your life that are obsessed with Android and like to tinker with things, these are a great gift and perfect for the stocking. If you know someone who has had an upgrade in the last year then there’s a good chance that their phone is packing NFC and if it then they’re good to go with these awesome little gifts. To find out more and go about purchasing a few, just head over to the AndyTags website.
