Featured: More Droid Razr HD Rumors, No Maxx Version or 13MP camera

August 15, 2012 - Written By Alexander Maxham

Motorola has been a hot topic lately. We’ve heard that they are laying off a number of people earlier this week. We’ve also seen a never ending number of rumors on the Droid Razr HD. In fact last week we heard there would be a Droid Razr HD and a Droid Razr HD Maxx. Now it looks like there will be no Droid Razr HD Maxx, also looks like the device won’t have a 13mp camera on the back.

According to some close sources of PhoneArena, it looks like the previous specs were false. And that Motorola is supposed to be launching the Droid Razr HD with a 8MP camera. But with just a 8MP camera, Motorola is not going to be able to beat out the Samsung Galaxy S3, Samsung Galaxy Note and the HTC One X just to name a few of the high end phones now available.

The other major feature that has now been axed, is the Droid Razr HD Maxx. You may remember last year Motorola launched the Droid Razr on Verizon with LTE and only a 1780mAh battery that is not removeable. A few months later Motorola showed the Droid Razr Maxx at CES in Las Vegas which had a 3300mAh battery that gives you 21.5 hours of talk time. Which is still the largest battery to come standard in an Android phone. It looks like the Droid Razr HD will come with a battery right in the middle. Rumored to have a 2530mAh battery which should be decent enough with Verizon’s battery sucking LTE network.

Now you may remember that earlier this year Motorola told us they would be focusing on making fewer devices. And so far they have lived up to that. Only releasing the Droid Razr Maxx on Verizon and the Atrix HD on AT&T, and the Photon Q is hitting Sprint on August 19th. Thats a huge difference from the 27 devices they launched last year. But Motorola needs to put a device on all carriers that can compete with the Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy S3, and the new iPhone, if they want to succeed and bring in more money. So far we are still looking at an October release date for the Droid Razr HD, in my opinion that’s too late to release this device and therefore it may not sell as well as they want it too.

Who’s looking to pick up this device on Verizon if and when it hits stores? What are your thoughts on Motorola and how they’ve committed “Suicide” in 2012? Some of our other writers talked about Motorola earlier this week on our podcast, if you missed it make sure you go and check it out.
