Sports Illustrated comes to Android Devices

Sports Illustrated magazine: the most popular sports magazine in the world is expanding its digital “All Access” subscriptions to Android Tablets and phones! The newest app has XOOM-sized support if you install the “Sports Illustrated – Tablet” version of the app, and it really reminds us why magazines should go digital.

If you already get the magazine, you can activate your digital access right within the app, if you don’t have any SI subscription account, they have offers tailored to how you’d like to receive their content. Since SI is known for their amazing photography, digital subscribers will get additional shots not used in the newsstand publication, as well as videos and articles that are exclusive as well. If you are a sports person with a XOOM it’s hard to come up with a reason why you shouldn’t get this one!

Both versions are available in the Android Market now. You can get the tablet sized version here, and the phone friendly version here. Check out their press release below.

Motorola Xoom Becomes Newest Option in Sports Illustrated “All Access” Subscription Plan

New York, NY (4.14.11) – Beginning today, Motorola Xoom users will be able to download a Sports Illustrated app through the Android Marketplace. The app is a new option in the “All Access” digital subscription plan that Time Inc. introduced earlier this year, designed to give consumers the ability to access Time Inc. publications, including Sports Illustrated, from a variety of devices (mobile, tablet and web).  Sports Illustrated will also be available on the HP TouchPad when it is released later this year.

Sports Illustrated has been at the forefront of aggressive digital development introducing more than 20 apps in the past year.  The roster of current SI apps include a magazine app for iPad and Android (Samsung Galaxy and Motorola Xoom) and an Android smartphone edition (OS 2.1 and higher). The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit franchise also has a half dozen digital extensions including 3D video, an HTML5 edition, mobile apps (iPhone and Android) and tablet (iPad and Android).  The Sports Illustrated Golf Group recently launched Golf Magazine Front 9 for iPad and iPhone and two Sports Illustrated Books have been enhanced for iPad editions.

Sports Illustrated “All Access” now offers the option of accessing magazine apps for the Samsung Galaxy, Motorola Xoom, and Android smartphones (OS 2.1 and higher); web access to the issue (after log in) can be found at  The specific plans are:

  • · Print/Digital (Samsung Galaxy/Motorola Xoom/Android Smartphone/Web): $48 annually or $4.99/month
  • · Digital Only: $3.99/month
