Here Comes the Amazon App Store, Launching Real Soon!

The Amazon App Store is launching this month, a tweet  from ad network Millennial stated:

“Launching this month! Amazon Appstore for #Android—learn more here.”

The Amazon App Store has been in development for some time now and intends to solve some of the problems Google’s Marketplace has been plagued with. It could threaten the standard Market provided enough people actually download it.

Why is Amazon Launching their own App Store?

The main issue that Amazon’s App Store attempts to solve is the difficulty in finding apps, which remains a constant complaint from many. The Marketplace was recently updated however, and Google released the long-awaited web version which attempted to rectify the matter. Amazon could still make major strides in the polish of the store UI and app discovery arenas and bring something that both app developers along with consumers could benefit from.

The one problem that could detract from its success is that Amazon, not the developer, will be in charge of the final App pricing. It could possibly generate more sales or cause developers to feel cheated and only time will tell which prevails.

Amazon is promoting for developers to sign up early and have the $99 per year access fee waived for the first year. So if you’re a developer, head on over to Amazon to learn more about the offer.
