AppBrain adds Naughty Filter Just in Time for Christmas

We all know the Android Market is full of many useful applications and games. There is however, plenty of spam, spyware, and for some people, offensive material. While it can be easy enough to avoid these things, with the ever-growing list of applications added every day, its almost impossible not to run across one of these issues from time to time.

Appbrain, the third-party app market supercenter, wants to make your browsing experience a little less clogged and user friendly, and to help people who dont want to be exposed to explicit material, be able to browse in peace.

“As with the spam apps we will not censor or remove these apps from our site, but instead we implemented an advanced ‘mature content’ filter on top of our already existing spam filter.
The new ‘mature content’ filter warns users when entering a page which shows an app with sexually explicit content. (Those apps which should not be in the Android Market according to the Android Market Content Policies) We hope this will make it even easier for you to find the good apps you want without being bothered by spam and porn.”

The current “mature” apps available from Appbrain wont be removed or censored from their site, just hidden from those who dont want them. The new “mature content” filter will warn users before entering a page containing anything sexually explicit. The feature is available on the Appbrain website for now, but will be added to their Android app in the next update.
