World War, Looting their countrymen: Android Game App Review

June 11, 2010 - Written By Chris Yackulic

App Name: World War by Storm8

Description: It’s the year 2012. A nuclear war has broken out. 5 countries have emerged as the major superpowers in the devastating war. Which one will you be?

How it works:  World War is a mission based Massive Multiplayer Online for the Android platform. The object of the game is to fight the ongoing war while making sure your army is always strong and ready for battle. When you start the game initially, you do not possess a large army. You have to fight, loot, sneak and fend off to gain experience points for your army to level up. As long as you have the game running on your device, you can attack or be attacked. Depending on the strategy you decide on you may have a chance to loot your enemies. Looting is beneficial to you in the context of this game because by looting you have more funds to build your buildings and units. The buildings are your home away from home because they help you tremendously with your defense and health replenishment needs. The units are your soldiers fighting the good fight to conquer the battles. When you are fatigued in a mission you will have to wait for your energy to refill by way of a countdown meter. Once the meter fills (increments of 8-13 points) then you will be able to finish the mission at hand. This same principle also applies for running out of ammunition. Please be advised that World War isn’t a great theatrical performance taking place before your eyes when you are fighting these missions. World War is a very well done touch-and-attack role playing game that any gamer can enjoy.

Opinion: World War touch and attack is a new format of gaming for me. The graphics were pleasing to my eyes. The soundtrack was lacking. I was looking forward to a constant playing soundtrack with a change of tune between the missions. The fact of the matter is I did not get my wish. In spite of the lack of soundtrack I believe that the game play is very well done. There’s quite a bit of strategy that goes along with this game. It would not be wise to fight everyone that you see once you’re able to play the game online. For example, if you are a level five be mindful that your enemies may have more unlocks at their level five then you do. I made that mistake when I played and I lost that mission. The menu navigation system needs work. Since this game is an identical port of the Iphone version with the exception of the menu system, companies who are making these games should esteem Android a little higher and give the Android community greater quality brands and products and not leftovers.

Ratings:

  • Speed (4/5) –  Responds well
  • Features (4/5) – Some are unlocked at certain levels but rewarding when received.
  • Theme (4/5) – There will always be World War games.
  • Overall (5/5) – Very good Role Playing Game.

Pro:  Great touch and attach RPG. Graphics are well done.

Cons: Menu system is lacking and needs a lengthier soundtrack.
